Vision & Values

We focus on the Goal

  • We are ambitious and we do all that we can to fulfil ours and the game’s potential
  • We believe in always setting ourselves higher standards of attainment and behaviour
  • We focus on a clear, simple plan and commit to meeting our expectations
  • We aim high and never compromise our ambitions

What it is
  • We have goals that are relevant and fit in with our overall SFA ambitions
  • We take responsibility for our own performance and seek feedback to ensure that we are on track
  • We set high standards
  • We see living the values as integral to the success of achieving our goals
  • We remove barriers that might that might get in the way of achieving our goals
  • We ensure we have success criteria and plan to deliver
  • We choose the mind-set that will support us being the best we can be for Scottish FA
  • Our Goals are Challenging and SMART
  • We don't give up or lose focus when times get tough
  • We focus on how we interact with others to achieve our goal
  • We plan for tomorrow without losing sight of today
  • We have monthly progress reports to track delivery against our goal

What it is not
  • Creating goals for our own agenda and not for the greater good of the organisation
  • Waiting until 6 monthly performance conversations to talk about progress towards goals
  • Moving the goalposts to suit own agenda
  • Behaving against the values to deliver the outcome
  • Open ended goals with no milestones or deliverables
  • Working on pet projects that are not agreed and part of the overall business plan

We Share and Connect

  • We promote and cultivate a positive and inclusive team ethic both internally and externally.  Togetherness is our strength.
  • We champion Scottish football and the organisation

What it is not
  • Seeing one part of the business as superior to another
  • Working in silos
  • Portraying negativity in the organisation or the game
  • Excluding or not respecting people based on their gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion or race
  • Just the Men's A team
  • Your mood or behaviour having a negative effect on colleagues
  • Undermining other people's roles or teams
  • Using Knowledge as power

  • We challenge each other as we believe we work better together than alone
  • We care and look after each other
  • We understand and celebrate differences
  • We trust each other to do our best for the organisation and its people

What it is not
  • Exclusion of colleagues who have a view or opinion different to you
  • Treating the working environment badly by not respecting others (e.g. cleaning up the kitchen)
  • Using "banter" as an excuse to disrespect others
  • Working on our own agenda to the detriment of others
  • Seeing other people's roles as worthless or not adding value
  • Focussing only on men's A game and not the diverse teams and roles that make up the SFA

  • We are professional and lead by example across the organisation inside out
  • We take ownership of our performance
  • We are constantly looking for ways to develop and stretch our capability
  • We do the right thing and speak up for what we believe
  • We are committed to the strategy of the SFA and we act and lead with knowledge and conviction to achieve it

What it is not
  • Just going through the motions everyday
  • Avoiding giving feedback to people who are behaving inappropriately
  • Settling for mediocre performance
  • Becoming a mood hoover
  • Focussing on what we can't control e.g. Men's A not qualifying so can't do anything
  • Shying away from development opportunities and keeping things at status quo
  • Blaming
  • Avoiding leading people and having difficult conversations to drive behaviour & performance
  • Behaving in a way that doesn’t sit with the values
  • Giving up
